It’s NOT All in Your Head

“Your tests came back negative, that’s great news.”

“Are you sure you’re ACTUALLY experiencing that?”

“Have you tried meditation?”

“Yeah it’s probably all in your head.”

These phrases sound familiar to you? If they do you are definitely not alone. Seems like more and more people in the office hear this from healthcare providers they have seen for their chronic conditions.

This normally wouldn’t be an issue but most of the people who hear these phrases have some serious health issues going on. Frustration doesn’t even begin to describe how someone would feel when they are told these things.

Sure it’s great to hear that your tests came back negative but for someone who is really suffering, they are almost hoping for something to be wrong. If something is wrong then it gives them hope that there is a method or procedure to make things right and allow them to feel better.

If you are one of these people then you need to keep reading this. If you know someone who is dealing with this or has been told that their problems are all in their head then please forward this to them. This information could be life changing!

IT’S ACTUALLY IN YOUR HEAD THOUGH

Pump the brakes before you get too worked up by that statement.

I know that it’s NOT actually in your head but at the same time is. Does that make sense?

What I mean by that is a lot of the people I see who have been told that infamous phrase are often dealing with things like anxiety, headaches or migraines, vertigo, and other symptoms that are associated with the head region.

All of those issues are very much real and are not just in your head even though the discomfort may be in your head. It kills me to sit across from someone during a consultation listening to what they’re experiencing knowing they feel hopeless. They’ve tried multiple things, have had multiple tests done, and everything comes back inconclusive.

This type of person is usually THE BEST fit for the office or any of The Specific Chiropractic Centers around the country!

We all work directly with the nervous system.

I get it, most people have been to a neurologist but what we’re doing and looking for is actually a lot different.

We aren’t looking for a huge lesion or anything like that. We are actually looking for something quite miniscule that has a huge impact on your overall health.

Any sort of nervous system dysfunction is what we are looking for. The body is designed to function at 100% and when it’s not there is a problem. That problem can present in a variety of ways. See the brain, brainstem, and spinal cord is what controls everything in the body.

The body sends messages to the brain and the brain responds with a message that is always correct for that original message….that is if the message reached the brain how it’s supposed to. Imagine if that message didn’t get to the brain how it was intended. Then the message from the brain could have a potential of not being totally correct. This can cause the nerves to break down, whatever cell, tissue, muscle, or organ that sent the message originally to break down, and the last thing you experience is a symptom of some sort.

The nervous system is broken down into a couple sub-categories if you may. One being a sympathetic side, which is fight or flight, the other being parasympathetic, which is rest and digest. A lot of the people we see in our offices are stuck in a chronic state of fight or flight. If that happens to you, and your body is never really able to rest, how do you think you are going to feel?

Terrible!

It’s going to be hard to calm down at the end of the day, you might have racing thoughts, headaches or migraines, anxiety, clenching of your jaw, muscles might have a hard time relaxing, and many others.

IS THERE A SOLUTION?

Now what’s really cool is that we have a tool in our offices that measure how the nervous system is working and if these messages are getting to and from the brain how they are supposed to. I will usually have someone come in for a complimentary consultation initially and we will do this test. It’s a tool that we roll up the back of the person’s neck. It doesn’t put anything in the body or hurt at all, it’s basically measuring very specific temperatures.

I always enjoy doing this and explaining it to people. If I see what I expect to see there is usually an issue going on with the nervous system and this tool will indicate that. I’ll explain to the person how this may be related to what they’re experiencing symptomatically and compare the findings to a handout that shows the body, nervous system, and symptoms related to specific areas. Majority of the time this correlates exactly to what they are experiencing. This always provides relief to the person as they FINALLY have proof that what they have been enduring isn’t in their head.

We always have to remember that if someone is experiencing chronic pain or discomfort that causes them to have a myriad of other problems. If someone struggles with headaches or migraines they never know when they’ll experience their next one. This makes planning things difficult and also causes them anxiety as they don’t know if they’ll feel well enough to even follow through!

Since we can find a problem going on with the nervous system that may be causing the person’s symptoms we can also provide a solution. We practice in a very unique way that focuses on restoring normal function to the nervous system. Once the nervous system is back to working how it’s supposed to, people will see their symptoms decrease. This in turn will allow them to be calmer, experience less anxiety, less headaches or migraines, less pain, better sleep, and many others.

Nobody should have to live with the idea that the health problems they are experiencing are in their head. They are 100% real and I am here to tell you that if you haven’t been able to get any sort of real relief or resolution The Specific Chiropractic Centers is here for you and is looking forward to helping you!
