Is There A Rock In Your Shoe?

The other day I was on a nice walk along Bradford Beach right downtown Milwaukee.

It was beautiful outside and I couldn’t resist taking in the beautiful weather and sun.

At the same time I didn’t really feel like taking off my shoes to walk in the sand and then having to brush the sand off my feet to put my shoes back on….it never seems to brush off all that easy. So I decided to keep my shoes on. Before you know it there was not only sand in my shoe but also a little rock. The last thing I really wanted to do was stop walking with my girlfriend, take my shoe off while balancing on one foot, and potentially fall over while trying to get this rock out of my shoe.

So what did I do?

I decided to keep walking while wiggling my foot to hopefully reposition this rock where I wouldn’t be able to feel it in my shoe but obviously that wasn’t working. Once we got back on the sidewalk I decided to stop by a railing and get the rock out of my shoe.

There may not be a rock in your shoe at this exact moment, but is there a rock in your shoe regarding your health?

That may sound like a ridiculous question but hear me out for a second.

When someone has a headache what do they normally do? Well a lot of people will take ibuprofen to get rid of it. Some people may start drinking more water, using peppermint oil, or go to a dark room or take a nap. Do all of those things work for getting rid of a headache? At times they definitely do work!

The issue with all of those things is that they are simply masking the symptoms. They don’t fix  the problem for good, which I’m assuming a lot of people would actually prefer that opposed to masking. This is very similar to my issue with the rock in my shoe. By keeping the rock in my shoe and wiggling my foot around I was simply trying to get the rock in a different place so I wouldn’t keep walking on it. The real solution was to take my shoe off and remove the rock as any normal person would do.

So why does that seem so foreign in regards to our health? Why do we never take the shoe off and remove the rock, but rather try and wiggle our foot around?

I think it really comes down to a lack of knowledge. It’s one of those things that we don’t know what we don’t know when it comes to achieving actual resolution to problems. Most of the things we see on the internet, tv, or magazines are related to masking certain symptoms…or not getting the rock out of your shoe.

If we think about it there aren’t many things out there that have a true cure. Sure people can beat cancer, we can help heal a broken bone, but a lot of chronic issues that people have don’t have a cure.

Sleep issues, headaches, migraine, tremors, high blood pressure…the list goes on and on of conditions that continue to plague millions of people. There are a ton of medications that people take to help mask the symptoms they’re experiencing but what about some sort of actual relief! I think there are a lot of people out there that don’t feel like having to rely on medication for the rest of their lives! At the same time most people don’t know that there may be relief or resolution to their issue without medication.

At The Specific Chiropractic Center this is what we focus on….well kind of. What we actually focus on is making sure that the body is working how it’s supposed to all the time! This may not sound like we are getting relief or resolution to issues that people deal with but those issues are usually caused by the body not working correctly. Oftentimes people’s bodies will be stuck in a state of fight or flight. This might not sound like a big deal but imagine an adrenaline rush. During that time you’re having an adrenaline rush it’s pretty hard to do things in an exact way. You’re feeling jittery, your heart is racing, you’re sweating, you get the idea. Now imagine the body is stuck in a dumbed down version of an adrenaline rush. There’s no doubt that the body would have a hard time doing certain functions that are vital to how we feel.

By using computerized infrared thermography we can see if the nervous system is out of whack, and not adapting how it’s supposed to. Aka we can tell if maybe one of the symptoms or health issues you’re experiencing is caused by the nervous system. If we do see this, then we provide a very specific adjustment to the upper neck area to restore nervous system function. Don’t worry, there isn’t any twisting or popping of your head or neck, which I think most people appreciate. By getting the nervous system back to working order, over time we see a decrease in people’s symptoms with some getting just about full resolution.

This testing along with the specific adjustment to the upper neck area is basically the same idea as taking the rock out of your shoe in the first place. It may seem a little troublesome at first but in the long run you won’t regret going this route, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t want to depend on taking medications your entire life. So next time you’re out for a walk and feel that pesky rock in your shoe…think about what you’ll do. Not just for that rock, but for life in general. We can try and wiggle our foot around or we can take our shoe, turn it upside down, and dump the rock out. It’s your life and your choice regarding how you want to live.
